Overview: The original spec home was representative of the post war 1940s construction and consistent with many other homes in the neighborhood.
Challenge: The client wanted an open floor living plan, a mudroom, a welcoming front façade, a new master suite and a large kitchen for entertaining.
Solution: We positioned the mudroom to connect the garage to the expanded first-floor living space. We designed a rear addition that allowed us to dig a deeper basement creating a spacious new rec room ideal for TV viewing. We reframed the roof line to accommodate the new rear addition and the extra space needed for the new master suite. We added a gable roof to the front of the house and a porch with arts and crafts mission style detailing. These design changes created a clean, retro look that conformed to the overall feel of the neighborhood yet transformed the look of the house and greatly enhanced curb appeal.
