Overview: An original 1950s Cape Cod with an attached garage needed better points of entry at both the center front and side kitchen door.
Challenge: The property is a narrow site with a small one-car attached garage and side entrance directly into the kitchen. We were tasked with maintaining the cape proportions while enhancing the second-floor bedrooms and expanding the front foyer to create a small mudroom at the side entrance.
Solution: A new shed dormer across the front of the house expanded the second floor and complemented the new open porch. The mudroom addition created a useful entrance from the driveway and improved connection to the kitchen.
